How to play TLKdle

TLKdle is a free daily guessing game about The Lion King films and the series The Lion Guard. Pick a mode, pick a difficulty and work out who or what the puzzle is about. Every mode has three steps: Easy, Medium and Hard. Easy puzzles use well-known characters, Hard ones use the deep cuts. A new set of puzzles arrives every day at midnight, your local time.

Classic

Type a character name and make a guess. Your guess shows up as a row of tiles that compare it with the secret character: Gender, Species, Alignment, Group, Home, Appears in, First seen. A green tile is an exact match. An orange tile means a partial match, for example the character shares one of several groups or films with the answer. A red tile means no match. On the year tile, an arrow shows which way to go: ▲ means the answer first appeared later than your guess, ▼ means earlier. Use the tiles to narrow the field until you name the character.

Quote

You get a line of dialogue and have to name who said it. Quotes come from the films and the series. When the same character appears in more than one film, there is a second question: which version of the character said it.

Emoji

A character is described with five emojis. You start with the vaguest one, and each wrong guess reveals one more. The last emoji is usually the giveaway. After enough misses the first letters of the name start to show as well.

Picture

You see a heavily blurred or covered picture of a character. Each wrong guess makes it clearer, until you can recognise who it is.

Episode

You get a quote from an episode of The Lion Guard and have to say which episode it came from. The tiles tell you whether your guess is close, and whether the real episode is earlier or later.

Swahili

Many names and phrases in The Lion King and The Lion Guard come from Swahili. In this mode you are given a Swahili word or phrase from the stories. You answer who said it, then what it means, and in some puzzles what the character's name means.

Points

Each puzzle is worth up to 15 points. You start from 12 points, lose one point for every wrong guess (never going below zero) and get 3 points for solving it. In Swahili mode each of the three questions is scored the same way on a smaller scale. Guesses that cost nothing, such as two characters who share every tile, are free.

Bonus rounds

After you finish the Hard puzzle of a mode, you may be offered a bonus round with a random difficulty. It is optional.
